One of Tulum’s most captivating landmarks, Escultura Ven a la Luz (“Come into the Light”), is a 10-meter (30 foot) tall wooden sculpture that has become a symbol of the region’s artistic and ecological spirit. Created by South African artist Daniel Popper for the 2018 Art With Me festival, this monumental figure now resides at the Ahau Tulum Hotel’s sculpture park, drawing visitors from around the world.
Made from wood, steel, rope, and natural fibers, the sculpture depicts a serene female figure opening her chest to reveal a interior filled with greenery. This powerful gesture symbolizes humanity’s deep connection with nature and invites viewers to reflect on their place within the natural world. Popper’s work emphasizes the importance of ecological awareness and the fragile beauty of Tulum’s coastal environment.
Located at the Ahau Tulum Hotel on Tulum’s beach road, the sculpture is part of an outdoor art space. Visitors can enter the sculpture park for a small fee—approximately 100MXN (5 USD) —and explore not only Ven a la Luz but also other thought-provoking installations. The park is open daily from 9 AM to 10 PM.
