What to Expect
Sac Actun is a guided experience by design. Entry includes snorkel gear and a guide, who leads small groups through cavern passages where the formations crowd the ceiling and the water runs glass-clear and cool. The scale is what stays with you: chambers of dripstone built over millennia, shafts of light where the cave opens, and the knowledge that the system continues far beyond anything you will see. Deeper cave-exploration tours and diving experiences go further for the committed. The water runs cooler than open cenotes, so consider the wetsuit rental if you feel the cold.

Location and Getting There
Sac Actun lies about 22 km (13.7 miles) north of Tulum, sharing the same entrance road as Parque Dos Ojos off Highway 307, roughly 25 minutes by car.

The guided group tour runs around 650 to 750 pesos (roughly 35 to 40 USD) and includes snorkel gear, with longer cave tours and diving costing more. Bring cash to be safe. Tours leave on a rolling schedule through the day. Between the guide requirement and the cave setting, this is one cenote where you follow the briefing exactly: hands off the formations, stay with the group, and the caves reward you.

Hi Carlos #best guide ever ! This Cenote is Great because a lot of different rock formations and the « ambiance » is unlike anything else. Carlos gave us a lot of informations so Big +1. We were lucky enough to be the only ones this afternoon so We Had a private tour just for my wife and I so this made the real différence for this expérience. if you can afford spending time here it is really worth it. Visited early in the morning and there were no other people. Got a private tour of the underground complex. You can bring your phone on the tour but I didn’t. You should definitely bring it. They take you through the complex with snorkels and flashlights. It’s unforgettable. I highly recommend!
Decided to go there with the family the morning after new years. We got to Sac Actun around 9 am and were the first ones to arrive. We opted for the group tour at $40 USD per head and ended up getting a private tour with a local guide, Samuel. It was fantastic! Our 8 and 5 year old kids loved it, but even with their wetsuits they were done after 30 minutes because they were too cold. That was about half-way through the tour. Even so, the experience was well worth it.
Really special Cenote! Since most of it is underground, it feels really sacred and magical! The color of the water is beyond gorgeous and the rock formations are some of the most amazing ones I’ve seen! The groups are small and the tour floating inside the cave is such a unforgettable experience
This was our second time visiting Sac Actun and it was just as incredible as we remembered. We first came in February 2023 and had such an amazing experience swimming through the cenote that we knew we had to bring friends back this time, and it did not disappoint. We had a great experience with Daniel as our guide. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the cenote and its ecosystem. It’s such a unique and special place. Highly recommend making this part of your trip if you’re in the area. Go early, right at opening, and ask for the group tour. If no one else shows up, they’ll often begin after 20-30 minutes and you may end up with a private or semi-private experience, which makes it even more special.
