Where is the Tulum Train Station?

The Tulum train station is located slightly outside the town center, approximately 5 kilometers (about 3 miles) west of the main urban area. Positioned near Highway 307, it offers easy access for travelers coming from nearby regions. For exact navigation, you can find the Tulum Train Station on Google Maps here.

To get to Tulum’s hotels, beaches, or archaeological sites, you might need local transport options, including taxis and colectivo vans, which are usually available near the station.

Train Routes to and from Tulum

The Maya Train is gradually expanding its network, but as of now, there is only one track to Tulum open and there the train only goes twice a day. Still, if you’re flexible it offers a decent alternative to highway travel from Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. It’s cheaper than hiring a private driver, without the hassle of renting a car and faster and more comfortable than the ADO bus to Tulum. Here’s where you can travel to and from:

Northbound:

  • Playa del Carmen: Just a short ride away, Playa del Carmen is famous for its bustling Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), stunning beaches, and vibrant nightlife.
  • Cancún (including the airport): Conveniently reach Cancún International Airport (CUN) or explore the city’s beaches and shopping districts.

Southbound:

The route towards Bacalar and the Belize border is still under construction, so you can’t yet take the Maya Train further south from Tulum. Updates on this section are expected soon.

  • Comfort: Spacious seating, air conditioning, and modern amenities enhance the travel experience..
  • Convenience: Direct connectivity between Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún make travel time (potentially) shorter and cheaper. The fact that it only goes twice a day severely limits its usefulness though.

Practical Tips for Using the Maya Train in Tulum

  • Check the schedule: With only two trains operating daily, it’s essential to confirm departure times ahead of your trip. Timetables are available at the station or on the official
  • Tren Maya website. Plan your transport: Since the Tulum train station is a bit outside the town, factor in extra time for transportation to and from the station.
  • Pack light: While the train allows luggage, keeping your bags compact can make your journey smoother, especially during peak travel times.
