Festivals in Tulum: Music and Culture

Tulum’s party calendar runs year-round, world-class DJs play the jungle and beach venues practically every week, but true festivals are rarer and worth planning around. The big electronic events land in high season and sell out, while the region’s cultural festivals offer a quieter, deeper look at the Yucatan. Here is the calendar that matters.

    Music Festivals in Tulum

Zamna Festival: Tulum’s flagship electronic music festival, staged in the jungle around a cenote and spread across multiple dates in the peak holiday weeks of January. International headliners, spectacular production, and crowds from around the world make it the anchor event of Tulum’s high season, and the reason accommodation vanishes around those dates.

Day Zero: the techno faithful’s pilgrimage, a single immersive night-into-day event in a jungle setting each January, from the mind of Damian Lazarus. Mystical staging, marathon sets, and a devoted crowd; it calls itself a festival and earns the title in atmosphere if not in length.

Beyond the named festivals, Tulum’s high season, roughly New Year through April, functions as one long music program, with touring DJs rotating through the beach clubs, jungle venues, and cenote stages weekly.

    Cultural Festivals in Tulum

A beach ceremony with dancers, traditional performer, drums, onlookers, turtle sculpture, palm trees, and nearby huts.

Festival de las Tortugas: the Turtle Festival, celebrated in nearby Akumal, raises awareness for sea turtle conservation with educational activities and beach cleanups, family-friendly and genuinely local.

Fiesta Tradicional de la Cancha Maya: held on October 7th in the region, honoring Maya traditions with rituals, dances, music, parades, local food, and the ancient pitz ball game, a living link to the culture that built the ruins.

Riviera Maya Film Festival: the region’s established film event, screening international cinema across the Riviera Maya with industry panels and workshops.

Festival Internacional de Cine Tulum: the intimate counterpart, focused on independent and Latin American cinema, documentaries, and experimental film in a relaxed Tulum-scale setting.
