These distinct high white vans operate regularly along the highway and usually drop you off wherever you request it, unless your location is close to their fixed stops. Keep in mind that the drivers typically speak very little to no English. And while colectivos are cheap, they’re not the safest or most comfortable way to travel, due to reckless driving and crowded vehicles.
  • Taxis: You can also take a taxi. They’re readily available in Akumal and the trip takes around 30-40 minutes, depending on the traffic conditions. Ensure you confirm the fare with the driver before starting your trip though. Negotiate if you don’t want to overpay and keep in mind that you can usually only pay with cash, so ensure you’ve cash on hand before getting into a taxi.
